Commonly, friends and acquaintances of the deceased choose to pay respects by sending fresh flowers either to the funeral home or directly to the family. Funeral flowers from friends and acquaintances may be sympathy vase arrangements or tribute arrangements:

- Tribute arrangements are set inside mache containers and are generally one-sided (flowers face the front).

- Sympathy vase arrangements may be taken home by the family of the deceased or may be sent directly to the family.

- For the same cost, vase arrangements are generally smaller than tribute arrangements as flowers are arranged all around the vase.
