How to Decorate Small Spaces With Plants and Flowers

Living in a small apartment can be a bit of a challenge - how to decorate the space without leaving it feeling messy or overcrowded? Our answer is: have a few objects strategically placed and go big on flowers and plants!

Decorating your small space does not have to be a complicated task. Decorating your small space with flowers and plants is even less complicated, in addition to being good for your physical and mental health

If you already know our blog, you must have read our previous posts about how decorating with flowers and plants can benefit your health. We've taught how to decorate with artificial flowers, showed you the best flowers for each zodiac sign, and shared several tips on caring for and decorating with flowers and plants!

And if today is your first time here, welcome to our blog! Located in the heart of Bayview Avenue, Flower Plus is a family-owned and operated flower shop committed to our customers' total satisfaction. We strongly believe in offering the highest standard in arrangements, creating innovative, modern and classic floral designs WITH using only the freshest flowers in the market.

And without further ado, we're here to share with you how easy it is to use plants and flowers to create an atmosphere of comfort and style in your small space with the tips we've selected below:

Set the theme of your decor!

First, you must choose what vibe you want to create with your decor. If you love spring and varied colours, think of multicoloured bouquets with gerberas, roses, hydrangeas and many fillings such as mini green wheat and boa, or cool twisted wreaths with cherry or lavender flowers. If you like a more tropical atmosphere, choose dense green foliage with some vibrant hues like bromeliad and large leafy plants like ferns. A vertical garden on one of the walls or on the balcony is also a great way to decorate without losing space and still bring nature into the house!

Get to work!

If you were inspired by some of the themes above or prefer something in a different style, the time has come to get down to business! After choosing your theme, the next step is to decide if you'll make the arrangements yourself or buy them from a flower shop.

If you don't have a green thumb or can't commit to upkeeping the flowers and plants, you may want to choose permanent flowers and plants like succulents. With artificial flowers and plants, you don't have to worry about seasonal flowers and can keep with your theme regardless of the time of the year.

Tropical plants, for example, need an ideal mix of indirect light and moisture to thrive. Now, you can get some humidifiers and move these plants around to get the perfect amount of sunlight. Or you can get a collection of high-quality artificial plants and guarantee that tropical forest vibe without worrying about maintenance and if the environmental conditions are favourable with each change of season! In winter, apartments in the city tend to get very dry and might not get enough sun exposure, so keeping your plants and flowers exuberant might help with the blues some of us feel during the coldest months of the year.

Small space, no problem!

With the high cost of the square footage in big cities, it seems like apartments are getting smaller and smaller! It is not surprising that in decorating small spaces, the motto is to optimize! One way to explore the decoration with plants is through plants that grow vertical, or hanging plants on the wall or ceiling, and vertical gardens!

Bamboo trees have a narrow profile and can fit in any corner. Its leaves spread dramatically at the top of the plant, which adds dimension and movement, making for a beautiful play with light and shadows. Garlands and ivy can spread over surfaces and walls (such as the tops of your kitchen cabinets or refrigerator).

One of our favourite looks is vertical gardens that can be made with ferns, ivy and succulents. You can install a vertical garden with natural or artificial plants on the balcony, on a corridor wall or even create a hanging and live display of plants for your living room wall.
